About This Project
Butter & Burlap is a side-project bakery blog, the place where I get to think about a brand and a customer that have nothing to do with WordPress, SEO, or forms.
I designed the brand, the content system, and the WordPress page templates from scratch. The whole thing is a playground for trying out typography, layout, and visual identity ideas without a client brief.
The visual identity leans into warm, hand-made feeling, soft cream backgrounds, deep forest green accents, hand-drawn illustrations of bread, whisks, and kitchen tools.
Every section is built with patterns that work without imagery, useful constraints that force the typography and layout to do real work, not lean on hero photos.
It’s an ongoing experiment. Some patterns from this project make it back into my professional work; others stay weird and warm and live only here.
